Project Accounting and Controls Advisor

Job Role Summary

Position will support the Area Projects organization to maintain strong accounting and business controls, and act as a subject matter expert in projects to assets.  The role will support the organization to ensure SAP project processes are working effectively and issues are resolved timely.  Additionally, the role will work with Area Projects personnel to maintain and improve alignment with other EMRE work processes, systems, and controls.   Role will work broadly with organization to develop new work process improvements within the company’s high business control standards.

Job Role Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing, updating, and stewarding the calendar of business controls activities; coordinates and/or conducts key business controls tests, and communicates/corrects identified gaps
  • Provides lead role in coordinating business line participation in Unit Internal Assessments (UIA) and Business Conrols Audits; Monitors open gaps and assesses sustainability of gap closures (UIA & audit)
  • Provides guidance on policy violation reporting process and business lines’s Representation Letter; supports management in conducting Business Practices Reviews, as needed
  • Ensures appropriate controls training is provided to the business line; develops/delivers new training material, as required
  • Provides support on potential irregularity / conflict of interest / outside directorship issues
  • Interfaces with management and Controllers to ensure proper controls and accounting management throughout the organization
  • Actively interfaces with other regional accounting and controls advisors to resolve issues, drive improvements, and facilitiate consistency across Regional Projects Organization

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance 
  • Relevant work experience in project accounting (minimum 10 years)
  • Direct experience and knowledge in Sarbanes-Oxley Act requirements
  • Strong SAP skills; working knowledge of Purchase To Pay and Asset modules in SAP (requisitioning, tax determination, project accounting structures, closing projects to the asset ledger)
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to effectively communicate management
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of Fixed Asset Ledgers
  • Demonstrated competency in Excel
