What role you will play in our team

ExxonMobil is seeking a qualified and experienced flow assurance engineer to provide technical support and expertise to its development projects and production operations. The candidate would be part of ExxonMobil’s Flow Assurance Engineering team in ExxonMobil Technology and Engineering Company, which provides corporate-wide technical and advisory support for both design and operation of ExxonMobil’s diverse global portfolio of assets, new developments, and low-carbon solutions initiatives.

The Flow Assurance Lead Engineer is responsible for the design of oil and gas production systems and assessment of their operability, including wells, flowlines and risers, production and injection facilities, and pipelines.  The Lead Flow Assurance Engineer uses analytical and computational tools to predict the transient multiphase flow and thermal behavior of the production system and develops and documents functional requirements and operational strategies to prevent, mitigate, and remediate vulnerabilities associated with gas hydrate formation, wax deposition, and other solids.

What you will do

  • Develop and apply Flow Assurance design and operating strategies across deepwater projects, unconventional developments, midstream/downstream pipelines, R&D initiatives, and low‑carbon solutions.
  • Provide full life‑cycle Flow Assurance support from concept evaluation through detailed engineering, commissioning/startup, and steady-state operations.
  • Assess and recommend design and operating philosophies, clearly articulating strengths, limitations, and strategic implications for management decision-making.
  • Collaborate across disciplines (Marine, Risers, Pipelines, Subsea, Facilities, Reservoir) and interface with suppliers and contractors to align scopes, deliverables, and technical expectations.
  • Perform fluid characterization using thermodynamic simulation to model PVT behavior of produced fluids.
  • Conduct steady‑state flow modeling for sizing gas/water injection systems and pipelines.
  • Execute multiphase flow modeling (steady-state and transient) to design production systems, artificial lift requirements, insulation needs, and to evaluate operational transients such as slugging, cool‑down/warm‑up, startup, shutdown, and blowdown.
  • Analyze and predict solids formation and deposition behaviors (hydrates, sand, wax, scale, asphaltenes, etc.) using modeling and laboratory methods.
  • Evaluate erosion and corrosion risks and collaborate with Materials Engineers to guide material selection.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers in the Flow Assurance discipline.
  • Steward and revise Flow Assurance design/selection guides, software, and tools.
  • Sustain and promote ExxonMobil’s safety culture.

About You

Skills and Qualifications

  • Education: BS, MS, or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Petroleum Engineering.
  • 5-10 years’ relevant engineering work experience, with expertise in Flow Assurance.
  • Demonstrated work experience as a flow assurance engineer or process engineer on an oil or gas field development project or in oil or gas field and facility operations.
  • Demonstrated work experience in development of multicomponent fluid characterizations using a thermodynamic or process simulator, such as PVTSIM, HYSYS, or equivalent.
  • Formal training and demonstrated experience with transient multiphase flow modeling.
  • Experience in prediction of hydrate, wax, asphaltenes, inorganic scale formation and development of preventative and remediation operational strategies.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally.
  • Excellent verbal communication, presentation, and writing skills.
