What role you will play in our team
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Flow Assurance expert to join our team to provide technical leadership in the broad discipline of flow assurance and wells technology with particular expertise in oilfield production chemistry, inorganic scale prediction, and inorganic scale mitigation strategies.
The candidate would be part of the Flow Assurance Technology team in ExxonMobil Technology and Engineering located in Spring, Texas. The candidate will be responsible for working across interdisciplinary teams on developing solutions for global projects and operating assets in predicting and mitigating flow assurance challenges associated with inorganic scale in hydrocarbon and low carbon solution applications.
The Flow Assurance expert in production chemistry is responsible for providing technical leadership, innovation, and execution excellence in the prediction, prevention, and mitigation of inorganic scale and other solids across the production system. This role integrates Flow Assurance modeling, Production Chemistry expertise, and technology development to ensure safe, reliable, and optimized hydrocarbon delivery.
What you will do
- Provide technical leadership and quality assurance for established and emerging technologies across projects and operations, driving business performance through technology development and adaptation.
- Lead research initiatives by developing detailed plans, including scope, tasks, schedules, resources, and budgets, aligned with research strategies and Technology Development/Commercialization milestones.
- Coordinate internal gate and independent project reviews, act as the primary Research Application contact, and facilitate technology transfer, including qualification, deployment, improvement, and training.
- Lead or support lab testing programs (compatibility, partitioning, thermal stability, biodegradation, MIC/biocide interplay, scaling kinetics, and squeeze return testing) and translate findings into field trial designs.
- Perform fluid characterization using thermodynamic simulation to model PVT behavior of produced fluids.
- Conduct steady‑state flow modeling for sizing gas/water injection systems and pipelines.
- Execute multiphase flow modeling (steady-state and transient) to design production systems, artificial lift requirements, insulation needs, and to evaluate operational transients such as slugging, cool‑down/warm‑up, startup, shutdown, and blowdown.
- Analyze and predict solid formation and deposition behaviors (hydrates, sand, wax, scale, asphaltenes, etc.) using modeling and laboratory methods.
- Evaluate erosion and corrosion risks and collaborate with Materials Engineers to guide material selection.
- Act as advisor and mentor/guide for less experienced Flow Assurance Engineers globally, particularly in the area of inorganic scale prediction, prevention and remediation.
- Represent ExxonMobil in engagements with competitors, partners, joint ventures, NOCs, industry groups, academia, and industry forums.
- Coordinate technical qualification of scale inhibitors with chemical suppliers and service providers.
- Steward and update Flow Assurance design/selection guides, software, and tools.
