Federal Income Tax Audit Tax Advisor

Job Summary

 

The Federal Income Tax Audit Tax Advisor will be responsible for U.S. federal income tax audit matters for domestic and foreign entities. The advisor will primarily be responsible for preparing responses to IRS requests, researching and analyzing issues proposed by the IRS auditors, preparing taxpayer proposed adjustments, and timely communicating audit results to management. 

 

This position is located in The Woodlands, TX.
 

Primary Job Functions

 

  • Effectively manage a large portfolio of audit related issues that require a broad spectrum of communication with various disciplines throughout the Company
  • Gather and analyze data to prepare responses to IRS requests
  • Review, prepare, and defend taxpayer proposed adjustments submitted to the IRS
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with data providers and IRS exam team
  • Review and analyze audit results for impact on current return filings
  • Assist with the appeals and tax litigation process
  • Conduct research in connection with the above responsibilities

Job Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting or finance, with preferred emphasis on Taxation
  • Minimum of 5 years combined federal income tax audit and compliance experience
  • Ability to efficiently research tax law related to issues that arise during examination
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities and manage short deadlines
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Strong organizational competencies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including advanced Excel tools for data analysis
  • Ability to work overtime when work demands / deadlines require

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

 

  • Technical federal tax knowledge of domestic and international taxation
  • Knowledge of oil and gas taxation
  • Experience in deferred income tax accounting
  • Experience using CorpTax
  • Proficiency in SAP to directly access information for audit requests
  • Experience using SharePoint
  • Ability to exploit technology to enhance productivity
