About Houston

ExxonMobil's state-of-the-art campus north of Houston serves as home to its Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses and their associated service groups. The facility opened in 2014 and accommodates more than 10,000 employees and visitors.

By bringing many global functional groups together, the campus provides employees with the tools and capabilities needed today, and in the future, to achieve business objectives and accelerate the discovery of new resources, technologies and products. It was designed to foster improved collaboration, creativity and innovation and enhance the company’s ability to attract, develop and retain the top talent in the industry.

The campus is located in Spring, Texas, on 385 wooded acres immediately to the west of Interstate Highway 45 (I-45), at the intersection of I-45 and the Hardy Toll Road, approximately 25 miles from the cultural vibrancy of downtown Houston.

The campus was constructed to the highest standards of energy efficiency and environmental stewardship. Its design incorporates extensive research into best practices in building and workplace design through extensive benchmarking of the world’s top academic, research, and corporate facilities.

What role you will play in our team

Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) Geoscientists evaluate storage opportunities across regional to reservoir scales to identify and evaluate the commercial potential of new carbon (CO2) storage opportunities. They are responsible for delivering high quality subsurface descriptions and clearly communicating key risks and uncertainties to support business investment decisions.

These professionals combine their subsurface and commercial insights to screen, capture and mature CO2 storage opportunities across a breadth of value chains through the interpretation and integration of geological and geophysical data, including seismic, well logs, fluids, and core samples. Advanced mapping, interpretation, and modeling techniques are routinely applied. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential, particularly in reservoir engineering, development and commercial planning, land, environmental, regulatory, well planning, operations and drilling execution.

What you will do

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize and apply geological knowledge, concepts, and skills to solve complex subsurface challenges, while continuously expanding technical expertise across disciplines
  • Proficient in generating and maturing storage sites within regional geological frameworks, even in data-constrained environments
  • Skilled in evaluating deterministic and probabilistic CO2 storage potential and identifying subsurface risks through the full exploration lifecycle—from subregional mapping, screening to maturation of storage site and drilling execution
  • Adept at integrating multi-scale datasets (seismic, well logs, core data) to construct robust and predictive subsurface models.
  • Proven effectiveness in collaborating within and across diverse, multi-disciplinary teams to drive storage opportunity generation and maturation success and knowledge sharing
  • Understand requirements for modeling and simulation and deliver products necessary to build simple to complex subsurface scenarios
  • Understand CO2 injection and plume migration, safety-hazard-environmental risks due to CO2 migration and regulatory requirements for engagement with a multi-functional team
  • Able to align technical decisions with strategic and commercial objectives, ensuring that geological activities contribute meaningfully to CO2 pore space value and long-term growth

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience:

  • Experience with Petrel, ArcGIS and Kingdom considered an asset
  • One must demonstrate leadership, adaptability, teamwork, excellent communication skills in English, and a commitment to high safety and ethical standards. In addition, candidates should be able to work effectively within and across diverse team environments

About you

  • Effectively integrates subsurface understanding with CCS value chain, economics, risk, and regulatory requirements to prioritize CO2 storage opportunities and guide sound investment decisions. Demonstrates independent problem-solving by leveraging geoscience expertise, diverse datasets, and analogs, applying sound judgment and timely execution to deliver business-aligned solutions while maintaining a competitive edge through prior experience
  • Candidates should have an MA/MS and/or PhD in Geology (or related fields). Candidates should have a strong, fundamental background in the earth sciences, physical sciences, and mathematics (including statistics)
  • Five or more years of experience in a relevant industry
  • Geological and Geophysical Interpretation & Integration: Proficiency in seismic interpretation, well log analysis, stratigraphy and structural geology to develop regional basin frameworks and delineate storage prospects
  • CO2 injection strategies: collaborate with subsurface modeler and reservoir engineer to generate injection strategies, optimization and scenarios
  • Quantitative Interpretation (QI): strong geophysical interpretation skills with the ability to develop integrated geophysical frameworks based on rock property predictions which can be leveraged in the identification of seismic attributes, environment of deposition and structural complexity
  • Ability to evaluate subsurface data to identify CO2 storage opportunities and risks through scenario delineation, volumetric calculations, risk assessments, and economic evaluations across project and full life cycle
  • Strong communication skills in presenting findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong technical writing skills to document subsurface basis for UIC Class VI permit applications (or international equivalent)
  • Strong multidisciplinary collaboration and project management
