Accounting Policy Analyst - Controller's

Job Role Summary

An Accounting Policy Analyst will initially serve in the Controller’s organization as part of one of the teams supporting the financial and accounting needs of ExxonMobil’s business lines.  The position will be located in Houston, TX.  Following a few rotations through assignments designed to build familiarity with ExxonMobil’s business operations and financial processes, a rotation through the Accounting Policy organization could occur, along with potential assignments in the Corporation’s Headquarters organization in Irving, TX.


Job Role Responsibilities

Analyzing relationships between complex operations, related contracts and financial transactions

•  Communicating and implementing changes in accounting standards

•  Providing guidance on appropriate accounting for both routine and less common business transactions

•  Utilizing and updating computing systems to accurately record financial transactions

•  Designing and evaluating controls

•  Advising organization on compliance with internal controls and accounting practices

•  Improving financial and accounting processes

•  Providing financial support to operating and financial organizations


Through these activities you will participate in business decisions, improve our processes, and work closely with both financial and business line operating management.  You can expect to rotate through two to three assignments in the first four to five years allowing for a variety of experiences to build skills and knowledge.


Demonstrated performance may lead to increasing responsibility and opportunities across the financial organizations (business analysis, financial reporting, accounting, financial controls) and through various business lines (Upstream, Downstream, Chemicals) via job rotation.

Job Competencies and Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance with a valid CPA certification
  • Prior experience at the Securities and Exchange Commission Division of Corp Fin, in either the Natural Resources, Mining, or Commodities offices
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Willing to relocate to Houston
