What you will do

 

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Business Development Advisor to join our Exploration and New Ventures team within the Upstream Commercial Organization. This role is ideal for professionals with a strong foundation in geoscience and a proven track record in international business development and negotiations, particularly in the upstream exploration space.
You will play a pivotal role in identifying, evaluating, and commercializing new exploration opportunities across the globe. Working closely with technical teams, external partners, and internal stakeholders, you will help shape the company’s future exploration portfolio through strategic deal-making and commercial leadership.

 

Location: Spring, Texas
Travel: Up to 50% international travel required

Skills and Qualifications

 

 Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead commercial negotiations and execute agreements related to exploration ventures, acquisitions, and divestments.
  • Collaborate with geoscientists and technical teams to assess prospectivity and commercial viability of new opportunities.
  • Represent the company in joint ventures, partner discussions, and government engagements across diverse international markets.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including NOCs, IOCs, and other industry participants.
  • Support strategic portfolio decisions by integrating technical insights with commercial analysis.
  • Ensure alignment across internal functions and secure necessary endorsements for new ventures.
  • Monitor market trends, regulatory developments, and competitive activity to inform strategy and deal execution.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geoscience, Engineering, Business, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years in international business development and negotiations within the upstream oil and gas sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in exploration-focused commercial roles, including deal origination and execution.
  • Strong understanding of exploration project economics and risk assessment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 50% and work effectively across cultures and geographies.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence decision-making. 

Preferred Experience

 

  • Background in geoscience or technical upstream disciplines.
  • Experience in emerging basins, frontier exploration, or new venture screening.
  • Familiarity with drafting and negotiating term sheets, contracts, and joint venture agreements.
  • Prior exposure to M&A transactions in exploration contexts (e.g., deepwater, unconventional, LNG).
  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and a passion for unlocking new opportunities.
