What role you will play in our team

 

Lead all commercial, regulatory, technical and advocacy activities related to China 1 MGV Guangdong grid interconnections and competitive wholesale power purchases.

Ensure that China 1 MGV initial commissioning and operations are not impacted by substations approval by local grid and from initial grid synchronization and initial power requirements of < 5 MW 4Q22 to ~ 50 MW 2H23 for commissioning power to full operational plant power demand of ~ 230 MW 1Q25

Responsible for managing / awarding and stewarding annual firm power purchases in excess of $200M and key interfaces with plant staff, grid operations, regulators, generators, wholesale marketers, etc.

Develop and execute medium to long-term low carbon / renewable power purchase strategies consistent with ExxonMobil’s GHG objectives in a cost effective manner without impacting China MGV 1 operations

Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Guangdong grid, appropriate Guangdong and China power related regulator / policy makers, power generators and aggregators and related industry advocacy groups, power related consultants and experienced legal consultants.

 

What you will do

 

Guangdong grid and substations interconnections:

  • Develop and maintain expert proficiency with interconnection requirements, grid standards and regulations and how these may change and impact operations, reliability and costs
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key Guangdong and Southern Grid officials and stake holders
  • Lead negotiations for grid interconnection agreement(s) for both China 1 MGV substation, leveraging technical and regulatory expertise
  • Negotiate agreement(s) as necessary to minimize / eliminate imbalance and ancillary services costs

 

Wholes Sales Power Purchases:

  • Develop and maintain relevant knowledge of wholesale market rules, trends, and requirements which could foreseeably impact power purchase alternatives, plant operations and overall costs
  • Develop and maintain relationship with key power generators and power marketers in Guangdong and adjacent provinces
  • Develop and maintain a medium to long-term power purchase strategy balancing low carbon / renewables consistent with ExxonMobil’s (including China & Guangdong) low carbon objectives while providing highly reliable and cost-effectiuve power supply that meets sites operational requirements
  • Understand wheeling arrangements and inter grid transmission constraints and rates
  • Lead negotiations for power purchase agreement(s) consistent with approved power purchase strategies and objectives

 

What you will do

 

Regulatory and Advocacy

  • Identify and participate in industry advocacy organizations to ensure power grid and market regulations and market rules are transparent, competitive and cost reflect to end consumers

 

Planning and Analysis:

  • Work with Business Planning & Analysis to develop/maintain economic models
  • Responsible for power related stewardship, F&O, P&B and governance processes.

 

About you

 

Fluency in Mandarin and English required

Able to work in a multi-cultural environment and adept at building and maintaining internal and external relationships

Prior exposure to technical and/or commercial power business preferred

Quick learner with demonstrated ability to leverage their commercial and technical skills in new, partially deregulated market that is expected to continue to rapidly evolve in the near to medium term

Strong leadership skills and self-starter with strong communication skills

Advanced negotiation and influencing skills

Demonstrated ability to leverage internal and external expertise

Succesful at obtaining internal customer buy-in, influencing management to gain approval and subsequently implementing the approved strategies.

Preferably some exposure to fast track projects and power technical or commercial in prior assignments

Exhibits sound commercial judgement and an ExxonMobil Corporation general interest perspective

Able to work in a multi-cultural environment and adept at building and maintaining internal and external relationships
