Job Role Summary

Perform engineering design for wells to ensure safe and successful drilling operations meeting global standards. Ensure the best use of available technology in drilling operations as well as perform well cost estimates, surveillance, daily progress improvement, follow-up assessments and equipment selection and application. Provide offshore rig site technical assistance and surveillance to Well Operations Supervisors during execution. The candidate will be provided with opportunities for on-the-job training to build competency in the key responsibilities listed below.

Job Role Responsibilities

  • Understand the operating and construction characteristics of components in the drilling & completion systems, alternative systems and procedures that might be implemented to further enhance safety and operational efficiency. 
  • Well design and cost estimating including:
  • Drilling and Completion fluid selection and hydraulic design 
  • Directional path, bottomhole assembly design, and drill bit design 
  • Material Selection: wellhead and casing design 
  • Cement design and calculations
  • Obtaining all required permits and regulatory approvals 
  • Potential tendering for services and equipment 
  • Ensuring compliance with business controls 
  • Prepare and revise drilling and completion programs. Collaborate with other groups to ensure the program is inclusive of all relevant geological and drilling information. The drilling or completion programs include the following:
  • Wellhead, casing and cementing program designed to meet expected conditions 
  • Hydraulics, rotary speed, and bit weight program 
  • Bottomhole assembly program to maximize penetration rate and minimize vibrations 
  • Drilling fluid program designed to meet expected conditions
  • Well specific operating guidelines 
  • Riser tensioning program
  • Target time depth curve and a target cost
  • An assessment of special drilling problems that might be encountered
  • Abandonment program 
  • Details of the lower and upper completion type, equipment and execution procedures (if applicable) 

Education/ Experience


  • University degree in Engineering
  • Self-directed with the ability to recognize/pursue solutions required to solve problems 
  • Good interpersonal skills and effective organizational skills; good attention to detail, completeness and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to lead and facilitate meetings and group discussions; good public speaking skills
  • Excellent communications (oral & written)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Technical experience in Oil and Gas or heavy industry is advantageous
  • Willingness to travel to offshore locations on a regular basis (e.g. drilling rigs, FPSO)
