What role you will play in our team


Tax attorney supporting growing upstream operations in Georgetown, Guyana. Tax attorney will provide tax guidance for contract negotiations, economic assumptions, and strategy, working closely with the finance and other teams, including:

  • Providing tax and strategic advice on ExxonMobil’s upstream operations, based on strong knowledge of Guyana tax legislations and oil & gas industry.
  • Advising on upstream contract negotiations teams regarding tax matters.
  • Serving as interface with internal groups and the Guyana Revenue Authority. 

What you will do

 

  • Provide tax planning advice and strategic advice.
  • Review the economics of upstream projects and validate all Guyana tax assumptions.
  • Monitor, analyze, and advise on changes in the tax legislation that impact upstream business.
  • Review international tax treaties between Guyana and other tax jurisdictions and apply treaty benefits, if applicable.
  • Respond to inquiries and audits by the Guyana Revenue Authority and, if needed, prepare objections and appeals.
  • Provide tax trainings to internal groups. 

About you


Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Law degree is required.
  • 3+ years of relevant tax law experience advising clients operating in Guyana.
  • Strong knowledge of Guyana tax laws, tax compliance activities, and objections and appeals process.
  • Experience advising oil & gas industry clients.

 

Preferred Qualifications / Experience
 

  • Strong interpersonal, critical thinking, analytical, written and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities and time constraints.
  • Work well in a team-based environment.
  • Safety, Security and Controls awareness.
  • Decision making and business judgment.
