Job Role Summary

Occupational Health Physician reports to the EEPGL Medicine and Occupational Health Manager and is an employee assigned to develop, administer and deliver occupational health related clinical systems and services to business line operations. This is an onshore position that interfaces with onshore employees and dependents and offshore clinical personnel. The Occupational Health Physician provides direction/mentoring to Occupational Health Clinicians and is engaged in the delivery of clinical services.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Exhibits a commitment to safety and health of all employees.
  • Provides services within the professional scope and standards of practice specific to the healthcare of employees. 
  • Provides ExxonMobil guidance as it relates to clinical assessments to determine fitness for work or identify health effects of work-related exposures.
  • Consults on initial diagnosis and treatment for potentially work-related illnesses and injuries.
  • Performs case management for work-related illnesses and injuries as well as for disabling personal illnesses and injuries.
  • Provides advice to employees on prevention of illness and injury.
  • Participates from an occupational health perspective when emergency response is necessary.
  • Provides advice to all employees and contractors regarding occupational health issues.
  • Provides oversight for remote clinical programs and services.
  • Serves as back-up Medical Review Officer for A&D policy.
  • Provides advice, support, and mentoring for MOH employees (clinicians, IH) on occupational health related matters.
  • Provides guidance and feedback on occupational health common systems and improvement opportunities to the EEPGL MOH Manager.
  • Builds constructive relationships with local medical providers to ensure ill or injured workers receive prompt, adequate and appropriate medical services.
  • Builds constructive relationships with Government and business officials to maintain communications regarding current Government health initiatives.

  • IT literate and conversant with contemporary computer software.
  • Ability to provide clear and concise written updates.

Education and Experience


  • Must hold MBBS degree / MD Program international-standard
  • Licensed Medical Doctor in Guyana. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency via professional certifications as needed (e.g. ACLS, etc.)



  • At least 5 years of relevant experience. 
  • Recognized expertise in clinical health assessments, case management and program development.

  • Understanding of emergency/disaster preparedness and response.
  • Knowledge of public health, surveillance and disease prevention.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical, occupational, and environmental medicine.
  • Effective ‘working through others’ attitude.
  • Flexibility regarding working routine and ability to deal with urgent situations.
  • Comfortable to interact with senior management in a professional manner displaying utmost integrity, confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Must have initiative and decision making ability.
