Process Control Applications Engineer

Job Role Summary

We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Process Applications Engineer to join our team at Fife Ethylene Plant which is 25 miles north of Edinburgh.

Process Applications Engineers are responsible for developing on-line control applications to control operation of the process units, to maintain product quality and to maximise productivity. The key responsibilities are to:

  • Provide technical support to the Operations Department on process optimisation issues
  • Work closely with Process Technical teams to provide on-line control and optimisation applications consistent with unit economics, production targets and operating limits.  This will include development of new applications and modification of existing applications to meet the changing business requirements.
  • Provide support and training to the Operations Teams on control objectives and online control schemes
  • Develop continuous improvements to operator tools to support safe and effective operation of the process units

 

The role is based at our Mossmorran site, near Edinburgh, which is the one of Europe's largest and most modern ethylene plants.  The successful candidate will work with a small team of  3 engineers, which is part of the larger Engineering Specialists Group (ESPEC). The ESPEC Group comprises of approximately 25 multidisciplinary engineers and technicians, and provides technical support across the facility.

Job Role Responsibilities

To be eligible for this role, you must:

  • Hold an engineering degree in chemical engineering, or an equivalent subject.
  • Be, or be working towards being, a Chartered Engineer, as defined by the Engineering Council or equivalent. 
  • Have relevant experience developing and modifying on-line process control applications, preferably in a refining or petrochemical environment (five+ as a guide). Candidates with less than five years’ experience, but who have a high degree of relevant industry experience will also be considered.
  • Have strong IT skills, specifically being an experienced and competent user of Microsoft Office – including Excel and Word.

 

Desirable experience could include:

  • Hydrocarbon processing  in a refining and / or petrochemical environment
  • Development and sustainment of DMC controls or equivalent.
  • Use of simulation tools (PRO-II or equivalent) for process optimisation
  • Honeywell Experion C300/ACE
  • An in depth knowledge of refining and petrochemical processes is preferred, but training will be provided.
  • Successful candidates should possess a broad range of personal effectiveness and leadership skills, with the ability to facilitate and influence business decisions in a team environment.
