Job Role Summary

A Cloud Policy Engineer is a role in Apps/Modern Apps and Platforms and is focused on rapidly growing centralized security in the Azure cloud platform.
 A Cloud Policy Engineer will grow/maintain deep technical expertise in Azure, Azure Policy, and other automation techniques in the cloud.

Desired Skills and Background:

  • Understanding of Azure Management Groups, Subscriptions, Resource Groups and common Resources
  • Experience with Azure Policy and other automation techniques
  • Experience with Terraform is a bonus but not required
  • Experience with PowerShell coding and execution
  • Experience using GIT/Azure Dev Ops and deploying via CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience working in Agile teams, using Dev Ops practices
  • S&C experience - i.e., identifying and implementing relevant risks and associated security controls
  • Software development experience, ideally with the following technologies: PowerShell, C#, JavaScript / JSON
  • Understanding of general network concepts such as address space, CIDR notation, subnet, protocol, routing, NSG, etc.
  • Experience with Azure IaaS and PaaS services.

Job Role Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities include developing/implementing/maintaining Azure policies and other automated control solutions, primarily security-related and, to a growing degree in the future, 
  • Heavy collaboration required with internal XOM (Policy team, solution/system architects, customers/capability teams, Cyber Security, MA&P's Security Consulting team, various other cloud platform and infrastructure teams) and external parties (especially Microsoft, HCL and SentinelOne) in order to enforce Azure guardrails for Critical, High, Medium, and some Low risks across Azure IaaS and PaaS resources.  
  • Scope also includes solving technical challenges that arise when policies cause conflicts with how customer applications function in Azure.  With the addition of an MSP to help with writing policies, it is expected that the Cloud Policy Engineer will write some policies but also will focus on QA'ing the MSP's work, and helping deliver the Azure Policy strategy.  The cloud policy team also supports SentinelOne for endpoint protection/endpoint detection & response on VMs in Azure.
  • As a cloud policy engineer, you must have an Interest for learning Azure Policy and various Azure technologies as well as other automation techniques.  You have a desire to continually improve your skill set. You are a problem solver – you see a problem and think analytically and logically to develop and create the most efficient solution possible. You’re able to think outside the box and solve challenging problems in unconventional ways. Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions to both large and small audiences. You enjoy working together with an Agile team, but are capable of managing multiple tasks from start to finish alone when needed. You enjoy complicated challenges in a fast-paced, growing environment.
