Job Role Summary


The ExxonMobil Technology and Engineering organization is looking to hire a professional trained Tribologist to join the Applied Research team in Clinton, NJ. This individual will serve as the primary Tribologist overseeing fundamental research in Lubricant applications, managing all technical aspects of the Tribology Lab in Clinton, NJ and providing expert guidance to research programs spanning multiple product applications. The ideal candidate will help maintain / grow tribology capabilities in Clinton NJ and provide technical guidance to other ExxonMobil tribology labs globally.

Minimum Qualifications


  • PhD in Tribology or a closely related field or a M.S. in Tribology or a closely related field with 7+ years of industrial tribology laboratory experience
  • Desire to serve as the primary Tribologist, spending a majority of their time on tribology related studies
  • Ability and desire to effectively mentor other scientists and technicians with varying backgrounds
  • Extremely motivated to advance tribology research and drive value to lubricant products

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with automation of laboratory processes (programming, data capture, data analysis)
  • Prior research experience in tribo-chemistry and additive effects on friction and wear
  • Interest in representing ExxonMobil in tribology focused industry groups / committees
  • Willingness to new ideas and to influence change
