Ecotoxicology Laboratory Coordinator

Job Role Summary

ExxonMobil Biomedical Sciences, Inc. (EMBSI) is ExxonMobil's worldwide technical resource and center of excellence for occupational health and environmental sciences.   EMBSI's Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry Laboratory is responsible for conducting ecotoxicology testing and research in support of ExxonMobil's petrochemical products and global operations.  EMBSI is currently seeking a laboratory coordinator to conduct and supervise environmental fate and effects testing according to OECD, U.S. EPA and ISO test guidelines.

Expected Level of Proficiency

The qualified candidate must have a Master’s degree in environmental toxicology, biology, biochemistry, environmental science or a related field, or a Bachelor’s degree with commensurate experience. A minimum of five years experience as a laboratory supervisor or technical team lead in an environmental toxicology laboratory performing studies under Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) is required. Experience performing acute and chronic aquatic, benthic and terrestrial toxicity testing of difficult-to-test substances, including complex petrochemical mixtures is essential. The qualified candidate will have experience performing fish embryotoxicity (FET) testing, aquatic invertebrate (Ceriodaphnia) testing, fish dietary biomagnification studies, soil and sediment invertebrate testing, and standard and non-standard biodegradation testing.   Familiarity with exposure dosing techniques including polymer-mediated passive dosing, no headspace techniques and application of water accommodated fractions is preferred. Familiarity of aquatic toxicity predictive tools including biomimetic extractions and target lipid model (TLM) is also preferred.  

Job Role Responsibilities

The candidate is expected to direct a team of laboratory technicians in support of the testing requirements of EMBSI’s staff environmental scientists in addition to working as part of an interdisciplinary environmental chemistry and ecotoxicology laboratory team.  Extensive experience with laboratory scheduling, and report writing, particularly for regulatory submissions is required. The qualified candidate will be able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, and be able to manage and meet multiple deadlines. Experience with Microsoft office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) and statistical packages (e.g. JMP/SAS, R) is essential.
