Computational Fluid Dynamics Specialist

Job Role Summary

The Chemical Engineering Technology / Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Specialist fulfills a global consulting role supporting multiple research and development projects as well as manufacturing facilities.  This specialist provides technical leadership and in-depth analysis using principles of transport phenomena as well as CFD modeling for projects of varying duration involving fluid dynamics, multiphase flow, reacting flow, and process development and scale-up.

Job Role Responsibilities
  • Lead and participate in multi-disciplinary teams to develop technical solutions based on principles of transport phenomena and CFD simulations to address business needs
  • Maintain, advance, and develop CFD models for the simulation of multiphase flow and reacting systems
  • Conduct research to deliver technology advantages to refinery and chemical plant operations in the areas of energy, margin, safety, and reliability
  • Provide technical leadership through involvement in formal technical networks and work groups
  • Assist research laboratories in design and operation of experimental apparatus and associated experimental programs
  • Develop and maintain technical standards and guidelines
  • Assist manufacturing sites in the application of new technology
  • Support capital projects in the areas of design consulting and technical quality assurance
Job Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (Chemical is preferred) with focus on fluid dynamics, preferably for combustion, multiphase systems, and CFD modeling of such systems
  • Ability to engage work groups and business partners to deliver technical solutions in the area of Chemical Engineering Technology
  • Ability to creatively apply new understanding to improve process technology
  • Sense of ownership and personal accountability for quality of work
  • Ability to balance multiple simultaneous short- and long-term projects
  • Ability to take a measured risk approach in business decisions
  • Ability to use solid business judgment to recognize broader business context of technical work
  • Fluid dynamics - single and multiphase flows and experience with CFD modeling
  • Experience in modeling reacting flow or combustion is a plus
