Job Role Summary

The Information Research and Analysis unit of ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company, located in Annandale, NJ, has an opening for a Chemical and Patent Information Specialist.

Primary Job Functions

The Chemical and Patent Information Specialist will work with a team of Ph.D. scientists conducting comprehensive search and analysis of technical information in support of research, planning, business development, and intellectual property protection.  Expert searching using a variety of commercial online databases and information tools will be an important component of this work.  Projects will include state-of-the-art critical reviews, patent studies related to novelty, validity, and freedom of operation, and preparation of current-awareness surveys.

 

The Specialist will also serve as an integral member of the technical staff and will participate on research/intellectual property teams dealing with areas of chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer and materials science, and petroleum and petrochemical products and processes.  

Job Requirements

  • Advanced degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related science
  • Ability to learn and understand many diverse areas of science and technology
  • Effective analytical, presentation and communication skills

  • Excellent attention to detail 

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related science
  • 5+ years of experience in the use of professional patent information sources such as Derwent World Patents Index, EnCompass Literature and Patents, and Chemical Abstracts databases
  • Experience in the petroleum or petrochemical industry
  • Knowledge of patents and intellectual property
