Big Data Software Developer

Job Description

Act as primary data ingestion developer for data originating from PHD or other data historians (OSI PI) for formatting and delivery to a Hadoop Data Lake. Maintain PET (PHD Extraction Tool) for ingestion of live PHD data in an efficient and timely manner.

 

The incumbent is expected to keep abreast of latest technologies and methods of working with big data and the Hadoop infrastructure. Projects are run in an Agile manner, so a clear understanding of Agile methodologies is important. The incumbent is also expected to take initiative and be a technical subject matter expert on better ways to accomplish project goals. The development team is split up between Clinton, NJ;  Houston, TX;  and South America with large project meetings normally occurring in Houston. This Software Developer position is located in Clinton, New Jersey, and will report to the Supervisor of the Scientific Computing Organization within Research & Engineering IT.

A software developer working in this area is expected to have the curiosity and ingenuity required to quickly learn a knowledge domain well enough to interact effectively with ExxonMobil experts in that domain. Research domains include, but are not limited to: Data Analytics & Optimization, Geoscience & Physics, Computational Mechanics, Chemical/Mechanical/Civil/Electrical Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science or Engineering field with a strong computational background,
    • Examples of Science and Engineering degrees are Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computational Chemistry, Physics, etc.
  • Excellent analytical/problem solving skills
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the following required:
    • OS: UNIX/Linux and/or Windows
    • Languages/Libraries: Strong Python with rudimentary C# skills
    • Knowledge of at least one software development Tool Chain
    • Ability to Profile/Debug applications using some software development tool
    • An understanding of software engineering principles and algorithm complexity
  • Self-starter who works well in a team environment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Libraries/Frameworks: PHD, SQL, UNiformance
  • Domain knowledge in Big Data
  • Knowledge of parallel and distributed computing paradigms
