We are expanding our Middle Distillates Trading business within our global organization, rapidly building trading, risk management and analytical capabilities, and are looking to further strengthen the team.  

The current opportunity is for an experienced Middle Distillates Trader. The candidate will be part of the European desk, based in Brussels, and report to the European Middle Distillates Trading book lead.

What role would you play within our team.

If successful you will be an integral part of the Middle Distillates Trading team, developing trading strategies that manage the flexibility and opportunities within our own portfolio, as well as increase the value of our assets and portfolio positions. You will act as a key interface for the global trading team, origination teams, offering trading / hedging solutions, in addition to providing support to the risk controls team and analytics team in the evaluation of portfolio risk and valuation of flexibility and opportunities. The key deliverables include:


  • Expanding the regional and global trading portfolio while managing and optimizing exposure, further building on the physical flow from the ExxonMobil system.
  • Developing commercial strategies for optimal sales and purchases of physical and derivative middle distillates within risk limits 
  • Optimising our portfolio through effective implementation of trading strategies and VaR utilisation 
  • Taking a proactive role in business development, seeking out and evaluating market tenders to capture new business
  • Facilitating entry into new markets, leveraging knowledge of markets and broker contacts 
  • Ensuring trading activity is in compliance with internal risk governance policies/procedures, and is accurately captured in trade reporting infrastructure (i.e. position reporting, trade bookings & settlement)
  • Providing insights to our analytics team to continuously improve trading applications and fundamental analysis 
  • Coaching less experienced team members and provide back-up coverage where needed

Who are we looking for.


To be eligible for this role, you must:


  • Have worked within an oil major or trading house, trading middle distillates.  
  • Have experience in 
    • ARA/NWE/Baltic/MED markets and preferably in other regions to reinforce arbitrages into/out of Europe. 
    • Managing the exposure between paper and physical price setting mechanisms.
    • Comparative valuation of middle distillate streams, and blend valuation
    • Regulatory controls and compliance within a trading environment 
  • Have a commercial and entrepreneurial mindset: be profit driven, with solid track record 
  • Possess strong communication and collaboration skills, ability to develop solutions and opportunities proactively and with humility.  
  • Be able to demonstrate an ability to build relationships internally and externally.  
  • Be adept at presenting complex trading strategies and tactics in a concise and unambiguous manner, calibrated to the literacy level of the audience.
  • Be able to analyze opportunities and make decisions under time pressure and with incomplete information.
