Job description

ExxonMobil Chemical Europe Inc. currently has a position of a Mechanical Engineer available in its Technology Organization, located at the European Technology Center in Brussels.

The Mechanical Engineer provides subject matter expertise, oversight and assistance to the mechanical team. He/She demonstrates deep knowledge of pipefitting and construction, modification, and maintenance skills for pilot plants and experimentation equipment.  He/She is the subject matter expert for specific processes and procedures, technical matters, materials and equipment. Equipment types include pilot plants, lab equipment, small production lines, rotating equipment, reciprocation equipment, vessels, piping, structural, and other fixed equipment ("mechanical equipment"). He/She should have a good understanding of safety, health, and environmental requirements (SHE). He/She is able to provide support or guidance for complex trouble-shooting, may participate in constructability and maintenance design reviews and assist in engineering for routine maintenance or project support. He/She is also able to influence without authority and interacts effectively with operation and maintenance organizations. He/She demonstrates good communication and interpersonal skills to work with diverse groups; able to network effectively within organization.

Job Role Responsibilities
  • To provide oversight and support to technical execution of mechanical personnel in the field.
  • To implement maintenance design philosophies including project specifications for "mechanical equipment".
  • To provide technical support and coordination of risk assessments (HAZOP and HAZAMs), incident investigation and conceptual studies prior to start of operation.
  • To support operating and maintenance teams in troubleshooting complex issues
  • To provide technical support and input to training development and delivery.
  • To share Best Practices and to provide feedback for enhancement
  • To develop strong personal expertise, share knowledge with others via Networking, mentoring, etc.

Job Requirements
  • BSc/MSc in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Fluent in Dutch and English language, knowledge of French is a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience  with gas connections to, set-up, maintenance, repair and modification of pilot plants / small production lines / experimentation equipment. 
  • Deep knowledge about selection and use of materials, instrumentation systems, pipefitting with small tubing and medium pressure systems (e.g. Swagelok, Maximator) for pilot plants.
  • Understanding of flow diagrams, P&IDs, HAZOP and HAZAMS.
  • Experience in cost and maintenance planning.
