Brussels Headquarters

 

The office building in Brussels (Machelen) houses ExxonMobil's regional headquarters for Europe, Africa and the Middle East (EMEA) and the European Technology Centre for research and development.

 

What role you will play in our team

 

You will be joining the Intermediates & Wax Development Technology team, dedicated to providing Technology solutions to support ExxonMobil’s Performance Olefins & Derivatives business objectives. As member of the Basestocks, Synthetics and Intermediates Technology group, you will be aligning and collaborating with other EM Technology Organizations to develop new products and provide support for new applications, to develop improved or new technology advancements that add value to the Corporation and to support troubleshooting at manufacturing sites around the world.  

 

Key interfaces include Research & Development, Process Improve, plant technical personnel, lab and pilot plant Operations, Business / Quality teams, and Customer & Application Development teams.

 

Process technologies with deep capability include Higher Olefins (sPa and zeolite oligomerization) and Oxo (hydroformylation and aldehyde hydrogenation).

 

What you will do

 

  • Translate strategic business drivers into technology opportunities that reduce cost via advantaged feed or lower cost processes and/or economically produce new higher value products
  • Lead / support programs or projects consisting of new or improved process technology in collaboration with Product Development and Research & Development
  • Advise and help troubleshoot complex manufacturing technical problems as experts in process chemistry
  • Planning, coordinating and timely execution of lab and pilot plant experiments for program or manufacturing support activities
  • Translate lab or pilot plant results into process models that are used to scale-up to commercial scale
  • Develop or improve process simulations to aid in troubleshooting or design of new / retrofitted facilities
  • Design or revamp lab or pilot plant equipment and facilities in order to gain insight into chemistry or engineering fundamentals relevant to program or support activities.
  • Participate in innovation ideation to help maintain a robust technology pipeline supporting business needs
  • Monitor scientific advancements internal and external literature (including patents) to assess new opportunities or threats
  • Develop (or screen available) new catalysts for process improvements (including for new feedstock) and / or to maintain security of supply
  • Participate in Technology Network meetings and follow-up as member 
  • Share process chemistry expertise with site contacts through Networks

 

About you

 

  • MSc or preferably PhD in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry with typical focus areas on catalysis, lab-scale and pilot unit operations or process design. 
  • Process Engineering knowledge
  • Good understanding of physical and chemical analytical techniques

 

 

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

 

  • Strong analytical, communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with process modelling simulation software (PRO/II or Aspen)
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams (Technical, Operations, and Technology), to acquire knowledge on manufacturing processes, pilot plant operations and product and application requirements to guide development efforts
  • Fluent in English
