What role you will play in our team
Plan, direct, and coordinate activities that support Global Marine’s port agency operations, ensuring seamless vessel handling, regulatory compliance, and exceptional service quality and delivery. The Port Agency Advisor will collaborate closely with operations, trading, procurement, and accounting teams and leverage expertise to optimize vessel port costs while enhancing operational efficiency. The position is located at ExxonMobil’s office in Bengaluru.
What you will do
- Provide strategic advice and guidance to vessel operations and trading teams on port agency matters, including cost calculations, regulatory compliance, and best practices to achieve lowest in-class port costs
- Offer insights and recommendations to optimize vessel port calls, cargo handling, and port-related processes
- Liaise with port agents and authorities, terminal operators, and other stakeholders to facilitate smooth vessel operations and resolve operational challenges
- Develop analytical tools and reports for senior leadership that highlight vessel port cost structure and opportunities for savings; lead efforts with procurement teams to help negotiate service agreements with various port vendors where necessary.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment of port activities with trading and operational goals.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to shipping teams, building and maintaining strong relationships based on expertise, responsiveness, and reliability while providing tailored solutions and value-added services to meet their goals.
- Stay updated on maritime regulations, port policies, and industry developments, offering informed guidance to operations and trading teams.
- Conduct risk assessments of port operations, identifying potential hazards and vulnerabilities while developing risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to minimize disruptions and ensure safety.
- Be willing and able to travel periodically within the Houston region or other locations as needed, including industry events, up to an estimated 10-15% of work time.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field; Master's degree preferred but not required
- Extensive experience in marine operations management, preferably in port agency or terminal operations, with a minimum of 10 years in an advisory or consultancy role
- In-depth knowledge of port operations, maritime regulations, and industry best practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and persuasively to various leadership levels within the organization
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strategic mindset and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to monitor, manage and hold contract resources accountable to deliver results
- Proficiency in relevant software applications and systems used in marine operations and logistics
