What role you will play in our team

 

Support engineering activities in computational mechanics and FEA for static equipment and machinery components, including Operating Asset support and Project Engineering surveillance in Bangalore, KA

What you will do

 

Primary Job Functions

 

Work closely and in conjunction with other AA|FFS technical experts in providing expert support, and active mentorship to developing FEA specialists in the BTC.

  • Perform API 579 Level 3 and non-standard FEA and FFS work supporting operating and new ExxonMobil assets globally.
  • Expert status (E-status) reviews of FEA models, including geometry, material properties, mesh, loads, boundary conditions, load cases, results, and recommendations.
  • Reviews of Fracture Mechanics, Creep and Fatigue assessments, including underlying assumptions, material properties, and other inputs, results, and recommendations.
  • Troubleshooting of FEA and FFS work being performed by others using finite element analysis applications such as Abaqus, FEPipe/NozzlePRO, and SagePlus.
  • Developing job-aids
  • Perform engineering oversight of FEA work performed by engineering consultants/contractors.
  • Participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for fixed equipment and rotating equipment.
  • Participate in or lead Regional and Global technical networks and action teams.

 

About you

 

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Master’s in mechanical engineering or equivalent degree, or closely related engineering field from a recognized university with GPA 7.0 or above
  • Minimum 3 years of experience applying finite element methods in the petrochemical industry, in the evaluation and/or design of components using commercially available finite element analysis packages (Abaqus, Ansys, etc.), including development and application of user sub-routines and scripting (e.g., Python, Fortran, C++).
  • Familiar with industry standards for pressure vessels (ASME VIII), piping (ASME B31.3 and ASME B31.1), tanks (API 650) and Fitness for Service (API 579).
  • Thorough understanding of shape (interpolation) functions for linear and quadratic finite elements, numerical integration methods for full and reduced integration.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as an FEA and computational mechanics engineer in design and assessment of static equipment or machinery components

 

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

 

  • Experience in application of fracture mechanics, fatigue, and high temperature assessment methods. Exposure in risk-based assessments, root cause analysis, and development of equipment strategies and mitigation plans.
  • Experience with coupled-temperature FEA problems.
  • Experience with computational fluid dynamics.
  • Experience with analyzing structural dynamics problems, and/or FEA implicit and explicit solvers.
  • Analysis and troubleshooting of fixed equipment using applications such as PV-Elite, Caesar II, and SagePlus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Willing and able to travel, as required, for extended periods.
