What role you will play in our team

  • Responsible for the accurate assignment and maintenance of global tariff codes (HS/HTS/HTSUS) and export codes (Schedule B, ECCN) across the ExxonMobil product catalog, including purchased and produced material. 
  • This role ensures compliant classification to be used on all ExxonMobil import/export declarations.  
  • The ideal candidate blends STEM technical skills with sound techno-regulatory interpretation practices and strong cross-functional communication to produce audit-ready classification records.

Roles and Responsibilities

Product Classification
•    Assign HS/HTS/HTSUS, Schedule B, ECCN, and other local tariff codes using WCO General Rules of Interpretation, legal notes, and binding rulings.
•    Classify complex items (assemblies, kits, refurbished goods, spare parts) considering essential character, materials, and function.
•    Maintain classification decision trees and rationales with references (chapter notes, explanatory notes, rulings).
Data Governance & Documentation
•    Maintain a controlled repository of classifications linked to SKUs, BOMs, and product lifecycle changes.
•    Version control decisions, capture sources, and attach technical drawings/specs to each record.
Stakeholder Collaboration
•    Partner with Engineering, Product Management, Procurement, and Logistics to gather product details (composition, function, performance specs).
•    Broker Oversight & Trade Operations
•    Assist in valuation, origin determination, and FTA eligibility (e.g., USMCA, CPTPP) when classification impacts duty rates.
Controls, Audit & Risk Management
•    Conduct periodic internal audits; remediate discrepancies; prepare for government or 3rd party audits.
•    Monitor regulatory updates (tariff changes, duty rate updates, sanctions impact) and cascade changes into master data.
Systems & Automation
•    Integrate classification data with SAP/GTS.

Skills and Qualifications

Required


•    Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
•    3–5+ years of hands-on customs classification experience (import/export), preferably in Oil & Gas.
•    Strong working knowledge of HS/HTSUS, WCO GRIs, section/chapter notes, explanatory notes; familiarity with Schedule B and ECCN (EAR).
•    Experience collaborating with customs brokers and using trade compliance software.
•    Excellent analytical skills; ability to interpret technical specs and BOMs.
•    Clear, audit-ready writing and documentation skills.
•    Strong analytical, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills; problem solving and improvement mindset
•    Strong attention to detail
•    Demonstrated teamwork and ability to collaborate effectively across regional and functional boundaries
•    Procedure design & continuous improvement
•    Risk anticipation & audit readiness
•    Proficiency in spoken and written English

Preferred


•    Exposure to classification in multiple jurisdictions (EU CN/TARIC, CA HS, MX HS).
•    Experience with Trade compliance platforms, SAP; CAD/engineering drawing viewers, 
•    Understanding of Tariff databases, customs rulings (CROSS), WCO materials
•    Adapts to changing & competing priorities in response to dynamic supply/demand situations
•    Working independently and knowing when to escalate
•    Proactively following up on pending requests, and communicates to key stakeholders on progress & updates
•    Prioritizing and organizing tasks based on urgency, developing events, and time sensitive needs while coping with the stressful situations in an operational environment
