Process Engineer - Beaumont Refinery

Job Role Summary

The Senior Process Engineer provides the chemical engineering support necessary to maintain and enhance the Operations (Process) activity in their particular area of responsibility.  Typical assignments include being a dedicated source of technical support during the project development stage of large capital projects or responsibility for the long term improvements (capital and expense) for supported areas.  These improvements include safety, reliability, and profitability.  This engineer is the gateway for new technology applications in the supported units.  The Senior Process Engineer owns the critical parameter list and unit monitoring tools to enhance process performance.  The Senior Process Engineer mentors less experienced engineers and contributes towards their development.  In this second assignment, the Senior Process Engineer acts as a technical anchor for the supported units.

Job Role Responsibilities

  • Comply with Safety/Health/Environmental policy
  • Responsible for advancing the long term strategy of supported units
  • Provide the chemical engineering expertise to support Operations Team problem-solving efforts
  • Serve as the technical representative for technical networking, equipment strategies, HAZOP, and risk assessment
  • Utilize mass and energy balances, pressure balances, and process flow plans to identify improvement opportunities 
  • Consult with in-house chemical/process experts, vendors and/or outside consultants when necessary
  • Understand unit and general plant economic drivers to effectively implement daily optimization
  • Provide process engineering support for unit turnarounds
  • Review and assist in start-up of all new facilities that are being implemented in area of responsibility
  • Identify and provide solutions for problem areas adversely affecting unit service factor, operating costs, or safety
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of process and plant equipment
  • Mentor junior process engineers
  • Assist, as needed, in identifying the cause and solution for day-to-day operating problems with unit and refinery operations
  • Continuously improve professional skills

Expected Level of Proficiency

  • BS Chemical Engineering or equivalent degree
  • Experience in refining operations required
  • Minimum 3 years work experience in a refining environment
  • Demonstrated capital project development experience or process engineering experience
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and engineering software / simulation packages such as Pro/II, HTRI, Pressure Protection Manager, Visual Flow
  • Knowledge of Hazard Identification and Analysis (HAZOP) and Risk Assessment process
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Able to demonstrate leadership, initiative, teamwork, interpersonal effectiveness and self confidence
