With a population of more than 77,000, Baytown, Texas, is located in the Gulf Coast region of the United States, just east of Houston, the nation's fourth largest city. Founded in 1919, ExxonMobil's Baytown Complex is located on approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, about 25 miles east of Houston. Employing a workforce of more than 8,500, it is comprised of four manufacturing sites, including one in nearby Mont Belvieu, and a global technology center. These include the Baytown Refinery, one of the largest refineries in the United States, and the Baytown Olefins Plant, one of the largest ethylene plants in the world.

Its scope of products includes fuels, lube oils, and chemical compounds used in a diverse range of products, from auto battery cases, diapers and tire inner tubes to pharmaceutical uses, food packaging, trash bags and more.

The Baytown area sites are highly integrated, which makes the plants and products more efficient as we develop technologies to make cleaner fuels and work together to operate more safely and reliably.

What role you will play in our team

• Provide technical expertise on surfactants formulation for detergency applications   
• Work with technology, sales and marketing teams to support the existing and developmental portfolio of ExxalTM alcohol hydrophobes 
• Location is Houston area (Baytown, TX or Spring, TX)

What you will do

• Comply with all Corporate policies for internal and external activities 
• Provide technical expertise on performance of hydrophobes in detergency applications (laundry, hard surface, industrial…)
• Design, plan, coordinate and steward technical programs with internal or 3rd party laboratories to optimize the performance of various hydrophobes in selected applications
• Lead or contribute to all stages of technical development
• Provide technical support to customers utilizing our product offerings
• Interface with market facing team to innovate and define new product opportunities
• Participate in global, cross-disciplinary meetings and projects to leverage the breadth of knowledge and capabilities within ExxonMobil 
• Manage Intellectual Property and watch Technology in the core discipline. 
• Leverage teamwork, communication and presentation skills to translate technical insights into meaningful business needs and to develop effective technical support. 
• Effectively present our technical offer to a diverse audience (technical and non-technical) of customer and industry experts.
• Document completed efforts to ensure knowledge retention and enable others to build on the established body of work. 
• Identify opportunities to improve work processes.
• Mentor broadly across technology and the business.

Skills and Qualifications

• Masters Degree in: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or similar 
• Technical experience in detergency formulation and applications
• Knowledge of analytical and experimental tools and techniques to understand and demonstrate the value of the various components in a detergent formulation
• Functional/behavioral skill proficiencies consistent with the Job role requirements
• Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

• PhD Degree in:  Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or similar
• Technical experience in development and/or application of surfactants
• Technical experience in development and/or manufacture of detergent formulations
• Knowledge of structure-property relationships of natural and synthetic surfactants
• Experience with Customer Technical Support
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams (Technical, Sales, and Marketing), to acquire knowledge on new product and application requirements to guide development efforts
• Holistic understanding of the detergency value chain
• Understanding of market and regulatory trends related to surfactants and detergent formulations
