About Baytown

 

With a population of more than 77,000, Baytown, Texas, is located in the Gulf Coast region of the United States, just east of Houston, the nation's fourth largest city. Those who live and work in Baytown will find an area rich in history, as well as opportunities for outdoor activities due to its proximity to scenic waterways, namely Galveston Bay, the San Jacinto River and Buffalo Bayou.


Founded in 1919, ExxonMobil's Baytown Complex is located on approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, about 25 miles east of Houston. Employing a workforce of more than 8,500, it is comprised of four manufacturing sites, including one in nearby Mont Belvieu, and a global technology center. These include the Baytown Refinery, one of the largest refineries in the United States, and the Baytown Olefins Plant, one of the largest ethylene plants in the world.


Its scope of products includes fuels, lube oils, and chemical compounds used in a diverse range of products, from auto battery cases, diapers and tire inner tubes to pharmaceutical uses, food packaging, trash bags and more.

What role you will play in our team

 

Material Innovation group in Novel Products Research is looking for a Materials Scientist/Engineer to work on carbon based materials development. The requirement is focused on structure-property relationships of carbon products for various products/applications. 
 

What you will do

  • Interface with broader R&D and commercial organization to lead technical and application development aspects of carbon materials in battery and structural applications. 
  • Lead the value chain engagement by interacting with third party entities including convertors, OEMs, and industry research labs
  • Develop understanding on material selection and screening criteria and specifications for product fit in target application space. 
  • Help define market approach and support protecting intellectual property
  • Act as technical liaison with marketing and commercial counterparts in understanding techno-economics of new product, application and market segments

 

About you

 

Skills and Qualifications 

 

  • Successful candidates would be chemical engineers or materials engineers with broad background in mechanical and physical characterization of carbon materials.
  • Preferred qualifications include advanced degree in ChemEngg/MaterialsEngg and familiarity working with organic synthesis and characterization of mechanical, thermal and electrical/electrochemical properties.
  • Prior experience working with battery materials and/or carbon products including activated carbon, carbon black is highly beneficial.
  • Candidate must be willing to travel (up to 30%) to engage externally with value chain participants and collaborators to develop detailed understanding of complete technical application criteria for acceptance/validation.
  • Ideal candidate should possess excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively across functions to determine end use fit and product specifications.
