Portfolio Project Engineer

Job Role Summary

The Portfolio Project Engineer is responsible for leading and coordinating the project activities of the Integrated Project Team (IPT) and third party support during project development, project execution, and through project close-out. Key responsibilities include safety, cost, schedule and quality performance on assigned projects in accordance with the ExxonMobil Capital Project System. The Project Engineer will ensure the project meets all applicable standards and practices, including the implementation of safety practices, lessons learned, and capital efficiency.

Job Role Responsibilities
  • Act as a safety champion by promoting safety awareness and safe performance among IPT and  contractors
  • Lead the development of project-specific execution plans and schedule
  • Steward the completion of all required deliverables and support Process Designer, Cost Engineer, and Business Planners in the completion of their deliverables per the project schedule
  • Participate in relevant reviews and risk assessments
  • Lead timely constructability reviews to address and identify execution issues, risks, and strategies
  • Identify project opportunities and risks and develop / communicate execution mitigation plans to IPT and stakeholders during project development and at management reviews
  • Lead development of early funding plan and execution of other early project activities (e.g., long-lead equipment procurement, third party interfaces, early Detailed Engineering, IPT resourcing)
  • Act as the primary point of contact for contractor(s) during Detailed Engineering and Procurement; facilitate interpretation of project  scope and specifications
  • Ensure active engagement from Site Operations, Site Maintenance, Construction, and Engineering resources to enable timely reviews of engineering deliverables and closure of follow-up actions
  • Ensure effective change management and business controls, consistent with the project’s priorities & objectives
  • Appraise contractor’s performance and steward corrective actions when required
  • Inform key stakeholders of project status, performance, issues and anticipated completion dates
  • Maintain field presence to ensure project meets safety, cost, schedule, and quality standards
  • Facilitate interpretation of project scope and specifications as needed
  • Ensure alignment on systems completion and turnover activities with the site
  • Initiate mechanical completion / pre-startup reviews
  • Support startup activities by arranging for field support resources
  • Lead financial and documentation closeout activities according to site expectations
Job Requirements
  • Min 5 years of related project management experience in refining, petrochemical, and/or manufacturing industry
  • B.S. in Engineering or equivalent degree/work experience (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Materials, Petroleum)
  • Strong safety mindset
  • Robust Leadership skills to manage teams and proactively address issues to timely resolution
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong planning, business controls, project management and decision making skills
  • Strong computer skills, including: Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and stakeholders
