About Baytown
With a population of more than 77,000, Baytown, Texas, is located in the Gulf Coast region of the United States, just east of Houston, the nation's fourth largest city. Those who live and work in Baytown will find an area rich in history, as well as opportunities for outdoor activities due to its proximity to scenic waterways, namely Galveston Bay, the San Jacinto River and Buffalo Bayou.
Founded in 1919, ExxonMobil's Baytown Complex is located on approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, about 25 miles east of Houston. Employing a workforce of more than 8,500, it is comprised of four manufacturing
sites, including one in nearby Mont Belvieu, and a global technology center. These include the Baytown Refinery, one of the largest refineries in the United States, and the Baytown Olefins Plant, one of the largest ethylene plants in the world.
Its scope of products includes fuels, lube oils, and chemical compounds used in a diverse range of products, from auto battery cases, diapers and tire inner tubes to pharmaceutical uses, food packaging, trash bags and more.

What role you will play in our team
- BTEC Operations Services Department in Baytown TX has an Analyzer Technician position available.
- The successful candidate will join BTEC Analyzer Group, providing analytical and analyzer support for pilot units and laboratories while maintaining high quality and safety standards.
- Standard work schedules are 5x8 M-F, day shift with call outs and overtime during off hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Primary job location will be at Baytown Tx Technology & Engineering Complex
What you will do
- Maintain lab safety, housekeeping, and security
- Conduct the analysis and monitor of routine gas chromatography (GC) samples in accordance with established procedures, as well as non-routine samples for method development
- Perform routine maintenance of process analyzers and sample valves.
- Perform comprehensive maintenance of GC and GC Mass Spectrometer systems
- Demonstrate ability to troubleshoot, identify, and isolate issues in gas sample systems, sample valves, and various analytical equipment.
- Responsible for monitoring equipment performance, identifying abnormal conditions or measurements and supporting system optimization and troubleshooting initiative
- Understand the requirements and executes assigned work in accordance with the Site Safety Standards, Data Integrity Assurance Management System (DIAMS) requirements, Work Permit system, Operation Integrity Management System (OIMS)
- Understand liquid and gas sampling systems
- Prepare liquid calibration standards. Perform calibration and SQC and report changes or repairs needed
- Detailed record keeping and update P&IDs drawings as necessary.
- Write Standard Operating Procedures and familiarity with lab quality-control procedures
- Safely handle a wide range of hydrocarbons, maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols and procedures
- Provide timely & accurate information & status updates to First Line Supervisor (FLS), engineers, and researchers.
- Work in a team environment while independently preparing samples and executing data acquisition protocol
- Proactively coach, mentor, and communicate with Team on Safety / Quality / Productivity concerns or issues.
- Upkeep inventory.
About you
Skills and Qualifications
- Analytical laboratory experience with Agilent gas chromatography (GC) hardware and software
- Hands-on experience with process analyzers, particularly the Valmet Maxum II GC, Oxymat 6, Thermo Mass Spec, Extrel Mass Spec.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field.
Preferred Qualifications/ Experience
- Familiar with Microsoft Office productivity programs (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint)
- Good analytical and writing skills
- Good communication and organization skills
- Capable of adapting to changing priorities
- Well-organized and ability to work under pressure
- Excellent teamwork and collaborates effectively with colleagues to achieve common goals
- Basic knowledge of reading and interpreting piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision while following safe work practices at all the time
