About Baytown


With a population of more than 77,000, Baytown, Texas, is located in the Gulf Coast region of the United States, just east of Houston, the nation's fourth largest city. Those who live and work in Baytown will find an area rich in history, as well as opportunities for outdoor activities due to its proximity to scenic waterways, namely Galveston Bay, the San Jacinto River and Buffalo Bayou.

Founded in 1919, ExxonMobil's Baytown Complex is located on approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, about 25 miles east of Houston. Employing a workforce of more than 8,500, it is comprised of four manufacturing sites, including one in nearby Mont Belvieu, and a global technology center. These include the Baytown Refinery, one of the largest refineries in the United States, and the Baytown Olefins Plant, one of the largest ethylene plants in the world.

Its scope of products includes fuels, lube oils, and chemical compounds used in a diverse range of products, from auto battery cases, diapers and tire inner tubes to pharmaceutical uses, food packaging, trash bags and more.

The Baytown area sites are highly integrated, which makes the plants and products more efficient as we develop technologies to make cleaner fuels and work together to operate more safely and reliably.

What role you will play in our team

 

  • The Professional is tasked with providing detailed testing and fabrication results to support the advancement of Next Generation resins and new film structures on a fabrication cast line.
  • The open position is a day shift position located at the Baytown Technology and Engineering Complex 

 

What you will do

 

  • Using a fabrication cast line, can supply customer support for product development and troubleshooting customer issues on their site.
  • Oversees and performs method development work as needed for product development.
  • Performs internal calibrations and monitoring creates product data sheets for new product development.
  • Performs testing on product development products. 
  • Works with Cast line operators to operate large industrial size fabrication equipment.
  • Interfaces with internal customers daily.
  • Interfaces with external customers as needed.
  • Operates and maintains analytical and physical properties testing equipment.
  • Ensures data reliability through adherence to quality objectives and develops all method support documentation.
  • Calculates, analyzes and interprets data.
  • Loads data into Laboratory information management system for review by Ph. D. Scientists and Engineers.
  • Efficiently manages work request backlog and turnaround time for cast line. 
  • Solves analytical problems and leads efforts to introduce new technologies to support the business.
  • Stewards instrument calibrations and performs equipment verifications.
  • Manages sample inventory, handling, shipping, storage.
  • Conducts advanced scientific experiments.

 

Skills and Qualifications


Work Environment 
 

  • Works in areas where hands or arms are exposed to extreme heat or cold – proper PPE provided.
  • Works around moving machines or equipment
  • Able to drive a Kubota utility vehicle on site
  • Works in a high noise environment of over 85 decibels – proper PPE provided
  • Could work in an area with hand and arm vibration
  • Works, manages and safely disposes of lab chemicals as needed
  • Able to walk on irregular surfaces
  • Works at heights as needed
  • Work alone without Supervision
     

PPE that may be required
 

  • Wears flame retardant clothing such as shirt, pants, lab coat or coverall throughout the day
  • Wears safety glasses, face shields or goggles as needed to perform a task
  • Can utilize a variety of different gloves as needed
  • Wears steel toed shoes throughout the workday
  • Can use hearing protection such as ear plugs
  • Wear hardhat as needed
     

Capabilities
 

  • Able to stand and or walk for most of the workday
  • Frequent stair climbing with occasional ladder use
  • Frequent pushing/pulling/carrying of parts, heavy resin or equipment
  • Occasionally lift and carry 50lbs when the need arises
  • Occasionally turn valves on equipment
  • Can communicate in high noise environments
  • Kneels, crawls, bends on occasion depending on specific tasks
  • Intact smell
  • Frequent stooping or squatting
  • Works above shoulder height for less than an hour per day
  • Ability to use hands for lab activities or typing
     

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

 

  • 10+ years experience working, troubleshooting and developing products on a cast line
  • Operation of cast film extrusion equipment is a MUST
  • Capable of safe, reliable, and independent laboratory work given review of literature, framing of problem, and regular direction
  • Ability to learn new techniques as needed
  • Ability to read and follow detailed instructions
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Concern for accuracy and precision
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel and Word
  • Excellent communication (written/oral) and interpersonal skills
