This Operations and Mechanical (O&M) position requires pre-employment testing. Please read the job description in its entirety for additional information on accessing the assessment. The assessment should be completed by Sunday, April 28th, 2024.

What role you will play in our team

 

Machinery/Millwright is responsible for developing machinery equipment repair job scopes, procedures, safety & execution plans in the ExxonMobil Baytown Complex.

What you will do

 

  • Receive training that will enable you to facilitate the following tasks
  • Develop machinery equipment repair job scopes, procedures, safety & execution plans
  • Ensure compliance of applicable safety standards and procedures
  • Assume permit receiver responsibilities
  • Perform (LPSA) Loss Prevention Self-Assessment for each job
  • Troubleshoot, repair and/or overhaul all types of rotating equipment (pumps, fans, motors, turbines, etc.)
  • Execute quality, precision machinery rebuilds/repairs including completion of detailed documentation
  • Perform preventative maintenance such as oil changes and bearing inspections
  • Provide proper alignment for all types of rotating equipment
  • Utilize and maintain precision measuring tools (e.g. I.D.- O.D. mic’s, dial indicators, dial calipers, laser alignment tools, precision levels)
  • Validate equipment repair procedures or work specs
  • Ensure good housekeeping in work areas
  • Enter equipment repair history and close out work orders
  • Update repair procedures if needed
  • Update equipment technical data if needed Initiate ideas and/or modifications to improve equipment reliability and/or safety
  • An ExxonMobil Machinist is responsible for the repair of rotating equipment at the Baytown Chemical Plant and Refinery
  • Other tasks include the shop operations of a drill press, hydraulic lift, forklift, overhead cranes, manual engine lathes, milling machines, as well as field machinery repairs
  • Troubleshoot and repair all types of industry mechanical equipment
  • Read, interpret and create repair manuals and equipment / parts drawings for pumps, compressors and machinery components
  • Fabricate new parts per spec and drawing
  • Perform maintenance on all types of rotating equipment including pumps, motors, fans, steam & gas turbines, and positive displacement pumps, centrifugal pumps, reciprocating & centrifugal compressors
  • Perform maintenance on all types of Compressors and Gas Turbines
  • Applies Complex policies and procedures
  • Commitment for health and safety of self, others and the surrounding communities and for the protection of the environment
  • Become qualified in the Machinist / Millwright craft with knowledge of how other crafts affect the Machinist / Millwright Crafts and the overall job

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Previous craft and or industry experience fitting but not required
  • Knowledge of reliability and maintenance systems and their purpose
  • Familiarity with the software tools to perform operations and tasks required by the job
     

Summary of Machinist Apprentice Program
ExxonMobil Baytown has an apprenticeship agreement with the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, U.S. Department of Labor, between the Company and the person employed as a Machinist apprentice. The term of apprenticeship will be for three years.  Upon satisfactory completion of the requirements of the program, each apprentice is presented with a Certificate of Completion.
The Machinist Apprentice program includes minimum or 432 hours of formal instruction and skills laboratory instruction. The class and lab program includes programmed instruction, lectures, demonstrations, laboratory exercises, slide-tape presentations, video tape recordings, workbook exercises, hands-on practice exercises, written tests, and performance tests.  The skills laboratory is a supervised, hands-on activity within which the apprentice actually participates in applying and/or practicing the facts, principles, theory, and safety aspects related to the particular subject or skill being studied.  Machinist apprenticeship targets individuals with minimal to zero experience.  Opportunity for accelerated advancement based on previous experience and testing.

Pre-employment Testing Requirement

 

This Operations and Mechanical (O&M) position requires pre-employment testing. After applying you will receive a pop up giving you access to the assessment. You may take the assessment at that time or utilize the instructions below to access the assessment at a time convenient for you.  Note that the assessment must be completed by the deadline in order for you to be considered for the O&M position for which you have applied.

The O&M test has been revised.  Effective December 1, 2021 ALL candidates must complete the revised assessment.  Even if you have tested within the last 365 days (passed or failed), you must complete the revised assessment to be considered for this O&M opportunity.  Failure to complete the assessment by the deadline will result in your disqualification from consideration for this position.  

Test passed candidates will be screened by the hiring team and a subset invited for interview.  Note that a satisfactory result on the assessment does not guarantee an interview.
