About Baytown

 

With a population of more than 77,000, Baytown, Texas, is located in the Gulf Coast region of the United States, just east of Houston, the nation's fourth largest city. Those who live and work in Baytown will find an area rich in history, as well as opportunities for outdoor activities due to its proximity to scenic waterways, namely Galveston Bay, the San Jacinto River and Buffalo Bayou.


Founded in 1919, ExxonMobil's Baytown Complex is located on approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, about 25 miles east of Houston. Employing a workforce of more than 8,500, it is comprised of four manufacturing sites, including one in nearby Mont Belvieu, and a global technology center. These include the Baytown Refinery, one of the largest refineries in the United States, and the Baytown Olefins Plant, one of the largest ethylene plants in the world.


Its scope of products includes fuels, lube oils, and chemical compounds used in a diverse range of products, from auto battery cases, diapers and tire inner tubes to pharmaceutical uses, food packaging, trash bags and more.


The Baytown area sites are highly integrated, which makes the plants and products more efficient as we develop technologies to make cleaner fuels and work together to operate more safely and reliably.

What role you will play in our team

 

  • Champion digital enablement activities for Research & Development (R&D).
  • Support and modernizd software platforms and applications that enable R&D workflows across multiple sites.

What you will do

 

Digital Strategy & Project Execution

 

  • Engage stakeholders to identify, prioritize, and implement digital initiatives.
  • Support site-level digital activities and integrate them into a cohesive strategy aligned with the GLO Sites Digital Roadmap.
  • Work with teams to design and develop digital projects for Global Lab Operations, including workflow analysis and streamlined solutions.
  • Create workflow diagrams (Visio), facilitate UAT sessions, and manage application launches.
  • Collaborate with developers and product owners to ensure alignment with customer needs and company priorities.
  • Provide post-launch support and develop user documentation.

 

Innovation & Tool Evaluation

 

  • Research and evaluate emerging digital tools to ensure optimal solution selection.

 

Platform Modernization & Support 

 

  • Modernization and ongoing support of seamless integration with pilot unit operations and automation systems.
  • Scalability of data pipelines.

 

Enterprise & Strategic Support

 

  • System reliability, user enablement, and alignment with R&D digital initiatives.
  • Manage legacy system transitions and contribute to cross-functional technical tasks.

 

Scientific Software Ecosystem

 

  • Provide enterprise-level administration for Biovia and other scientific software platforms across multiple R&D sites in North America, Europe & Asia Pacific.
  • Ensure system reliability, security, licensing compliance, and integration across a complex digital ecosystem.

 

Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)

 

  • Support LIMS platforms to align with global lab workflows and digital transformation goals.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve issues and plan enhancements.

 

About you

 

Skills and Qualifications 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field with laboratory and pilot plant operations experience.
  • Experience in digital platform support & application development.
  • Experience with scientific software platforms (Biovia, LIMS) and enterprise systems.
  • Familiarity with data integration, automation, and R&D workflows.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong understanding of lab and pilot plant operation workflows.
  • Proficiency in workflow design tools (e.g., Visio).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge of compliance, licensing, and security best practices.

 

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

 

  • Experience in chemical R&D environments.
  • Knowledge of laboratory and pilot plant operations with material balance workflows.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based solutions & digital transformation strategies.
  • 3+ years’ experience in digital platform support & application development.
