About Baytown

With a population of more than 77,000, Baytown, Texas, is located in the Gulf Coast region of the United States, just east of Houston, the nation's fourth largest city. Founded in 1919, ExxonMobil's Baytown Complex is located on approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, about 25 miles east of Houston. Employing a workforce of more than 8,500, it is comprised of four manufacturing sites, including one in nearby Mont Belvieu, and a global technology center. These include the Baytown Refinery, one of the largest refineries in the United States, and the Baytown Olefins Plant, one of the largest ethylene plants in the world.

Its scope of products includes fuels, lube oils, and chemical compounds used in a diverse range of products, from auto battery cases, diapers and tire inner tubes to pharmaceutical uses, food packaging, trash bags and more.

The Baytown area sites are highly integrated, which makes the plants and products more efficient as we develop technologies to make cleaner fuels and work together to operate more safely and reliably.

What role you will play in our team

You will support all stages of product life cycle in their product or application discipline, focusing on base stocks, synthetics and intermediates.  You are expected to generate timely, reliable, and differentiating data and technical solutions through strong working knowledge of technology fundamentals and collaboration with cross-functional team.  You will design and execute technology program deliverables to sustain, improve, or develop product offerings.  You will clearly document, validate, and communicate technical data and study results, and translate technical learnings into meaningful business needs.

What you will do

• Support all stages of the product life cycle in their Product or Application discipline
• Generate timely, reliable, and differentiating data and technical solutions
• Protect and grow value across the entire value chain in their domain of activity: product, application, or customer support
• Acquire a strong working knowledge of technology fundamentals for their assigned areas
• Technical Knowledge Development: Develop technical knowledge on products from manufacturing process to applications performance.
• Technology Development / Deployment: Design and execute technology program deliverables to sustain, improve, or develop product offerings.
• Intellectual Property Compliance: Monitor and comply with Intellectual Property and watch technology in the core discipline.
• Technical Program Stewardship: Plan, coordinate, and steward technical programs with internal or third-party laboratories.
• Product Promotion: Promote product offerings with customers for increased placement or enhanced value.
• Documentation and Communication: Clearly document, validate, and communicate technical data and study results. Translate technical learnings into meaningful business needs.
• Competitive Intelligence: Collect technical insights on market trends and product integrity to provide to other functions or third parties to support development or deployment of products.
• Internal Collaboration: Participate in internal cross-disciplinary meetings, studies, and projects related to products or applications.
• External Engagement: Participate in external meetings or venues with customers, industry associations, or other third parties to support business needs.
• Work Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve work processes"
   

Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelors (B.S.) degree in Chemistry or Engineering.  
• Functional/behavioral skill proficiencies consistent with the Job role requirements
• Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills
• Strong understanding of physical and chemical analytical techniques
• Excellent leadership skills with ability to manage multi-faceted and complex projects 
   

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

• PhD Degree in:  Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or similar
• Experience with process modelling simulation software (PRO/II or Aspen)
• Good understanding of physical and chemical properties of relevant fluids and their impact on performance in applications"
