Job Role Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform work safely with strict adherence to procedures, use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and company policy.  Ownership of personal safety and safety of co-workers.
  • Work a rotating shift schedule in a team environment
  • Obtain unit qualification within specified time progression and maintain all post training requirements.
  • Conduct operator surveillance rounds, record data and catch unit product samples for field or laboratory analysis. 
  • Operate and maintain unit equipment, open / close valves of various sizes, and prepare process equipment for maintenance.  Process equipment includes but is not limited to the following: pumps, compressors, furnaces, towers, reactors, exchangers, filters and associated piping.
  • Perform primary emergency response duties assigned per post requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and correct process related issues (i.e.: temperature, pressure, flow).
  • Operate motorized equipment including fork trucks and personnel lifts.

Job Role Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Successful completion of the ExxonMobil Pre-employment Test
  • Submit to and satisfactorily complete pre-employment background, medical, and drug screening.
  • Willing and able to work in inclement weather, climb structures and perform work at heights.  
  • Willing and able to work on a rotating (12 hour) shift and be willing to work nights, holidays and overtime.
  • Currently possess or be able to qualify for a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrated relevant work experience is preferred
  • Participation in a Process Operator training program (e.g. P-Tech program) is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a contributing team member
  • Able to work independent of direct supervision
  • Desire and ability to be a leader in personal safety and teamwork dynamics

Job Role Summary

  • Responsible for the operation and monitoring of process equipment in a safe, reliable and environmentally sound manner. 
  • Responsible for frequent, routine surveillance rounds, process stream sampling / analysis and equipment preparation.
  • 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime (voluntary/mandatory)
  • Position is located at the Baton Rouge Polyolefins Plant

Pre-employment Assessment Requirements

This Operations and Mechanical (O&M) position requires pre-employment testing. After applying you will receive a pop up giving you access to the assessment. You may take the assessment at that time or utilize the instructions below to access the assessment at a time convenient for you.  Note that the assessment must be completed by the deadline in order for you to be considered for the O&M position for which you have applied. 

  • The O&M test has been revised.  Effective December 1, 2021 ALL candidates must complete the revised assessment.  Even if you have tested within the last 365 days (passed or failed), you must complete the revised assessment to be considered for this O&M opportunity.  Failure to complete the assessment by the deadline will result in your disqualification from consideration for this position.  
  • Test passed candidates will be screened by the hiring team and a subset invited for interview.  Note that a satisfactory result on the assessment does not guarantee an interview.
