Electrical Specialist

Job Role Summary

  • Take leadership role in the maintenance and installation of power distribution equipment at a large manufacturing plant. 
  • Participate in development and execution of maintenance plans, equipment repairs/upgrades and assist electricians with complex troubleshooting tasks
  • Take a leadership role in promoting electrical safety and training others
  • This position is located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Job Role Responsibilities

  • Oversee electrical maintenance and project work for safety and quality
  • Participate in electrical safety field verifications
  • Assist with electrical tests on cables, switchgear, transformers, protective relays, etc.
  • Assist general electrician tasks on an as needed basis (troubleshooting, taking measurements, etc.)
  • Participate in risk assessments
  • Participate in the work scheduling processes
  • Available to work after hours repair support
  • Develop preventive maintenance plans for High Voltage Substations, High Voltage Transformers, Breakers, distribution panels, and other electrical equipment
  • Assist in managing maintenance resources by using equipment and materials in an efficient as-needed manner
  • Oversee electrical switching to energize and de-energize power distribution systems
  • Manage and maintain spare parts inventories and equipment parts lists (BOMs) as needed to ensure reliable operation

Job Role Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience with installation, repair, and troubleshooting of low and medium voltage switchgear, motors, and protective relaying
  • Working knowledge of electrical equipment and electrical safe work practices in order to perform the duties outlined above

  • Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Effective meeting facilitation, organizational & problem solving, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and manage competing priorities
  • Ability to effectively work with spreadsheets and create graphs/charts to communicate job progression and management
  • Proficiency with standard software packages including: MS Word, MS Excel, SAP, and Primavera P6 (or related planning and scheduling program)
  • Ability to read electrical drawings
  • Experience with electrical equipment failure modes and preventive/predictive maintenance techniques
  • Familiar with protective device coordination principles (SKM or other power system modeling experience a plus
