Job Role Summary

The Senior Process Design Engineer position is based in Baton Rouge, LA and is responsible for the development of safe, capitally efficient petrochemical and refining projects at the Baton Rouge Area facilities.

Job Role Responsibilities

  • Design new and modified facilities to meet business objectives
  • Ensure alignment of recommended scope with Business Teams and Engineering Specialists
  • Participate as technical design lead in Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) reviews of base plant facilities and for new projects
  • Perform technical reviews of the work of less experienced process design engineers, ensuring delivery of technical quality and capital efficiency while meeting schedule requirements
  • Participate in planning and work allocation process for the process design discipline
  • Steward contractor performance to ensure consistency with project requirements during detailed engineering
  • Support start-up of new facilities
  • Some travel expected for training and networking. Travel could range between a couple of days to a few weeks

Job Requirements

  • Candidates must have a strong background in Process Design and Capital Project Development, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the petrochemical industry (e.g., chemical plant, refinery)
  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Chemical Engineering
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal and process safety
  • Candidates should have a strong process safety background (HAZOP, Safety Relief Systems) with working knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
  • Capable of leading capital project development or design effort
  • Capable of mentoring less experienced process design engineers
  • Ability to develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), heat and material balances (H&MBs), and Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs) for petrochemical processes
  • Ability to create and modify simulations of petrochemical processes using PRO/II, Hysys, Aspen, or equivalent tools to evaluate requirements for new or modified plant facilities
  • Ability to design new process equipment and rate existing process equipment to determine if it is suitable for modified operating parameters
  • Responsible for creating and reviewing detailed technical documents, including gaining alignment with all key project team participants
  • Ability to effectively communicate to Integrated Project Team (IPT) members, peers, and different levels of management
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, teamwork, accuracy, effectiveness, and self confidence

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and manage competing priorities
  • Understanding of project development phase scheduling and resource allocation techniques
  • Understanding of an operating process unit and demonstrated ability to provide engineering support to Operations
  • Willing and able to relocate for new assignments/projects
