Computational Solid Mechanics Engineer

Job Role Summary


Specific areas of interest for this position include the application of mechanical engineering, numerical and programming skills to tackle a range of problems in the upstream oil and gas industry. We are looking to hire candidates to work on challenging engineering and geological problems within our upstream business that focuses on exploration, development, production and marketing and transportation of hydrocarbons.


  • Work with engineers, geoscientists and computational scientists to develop and deliver computational tools, models, algorithms or software to support our upstream business units in planning and execution of oil and gas exploration and development activities.
  • Implement a combination of physics-based and data driven methods for analyzing drilling and seismic data.  
  • Create interactive user interfaces/dashboards for visualizing raw and processed data.
  • Create and maintain infrastructure to integrate a variety of data sources and methods for analyzing data.
  • Design, build, and execute parametric and uncertainty analysis studies to validate physics-based and data driven methods for analyzing data.  Tune methods based on field data.
  • Create tutorials, documentation, training material and case studies.



  • Master's degree from a recognized university in one of the following disciplines: Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related disciplines with minimum GPA 7.0 and above.
  • Expertise with numerical programming in at least one (two preferred) of the following languages: Matlab, R or Python.
  • Professional work experience in Solid Mechanics, Continuum Mechanics, Rigid Body Dynamics and Mechanical Vibrations.  
  • A basic understanding of the theory of the Finite Element Method and Signal Processing is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of numerical analysis and at least one method for numerically solving boundary-value and initial boundary-value problems is required.
  • Knowledge of Java and/or C++ is preferred.
  • Knowledge of various databases (SQL, NoSQL) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Finite Element software such as ABAQUS & ANSYS is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, including technical writing competency.
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment is required.
  • Previous work experience in the upstream oil and gas industry is an advantage.
