Computational Engineer

Job Role Summary


 

We are looking to hire candidates to work on challenging engineering and geological problems within our upstream business that focuses on exploration, development, production and marketing and transportation of hydrocarbons. Specific areas of interest for this position include the application of engineering, numerical and programming skills to tackle a range of problems in the upstream oil and gas industry


 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Work with computational scientists, engineers, and geoscientists to develop and deliver computational tools, models, algorithms, or software to support our upstream business
  • Create and maintain infrastructure to automate simulation preparation and execution including processing and analyses of simulation results
  • Design, build, and execute parametric and uncertainty analysis studies using simulation models
  • Tune simulation models to field data and use the tuned model in semi- and fully –automated settings to provide field optimization recommendations
  • Create tutorials, documentation, training material, and case studies

 

Job Role Requirements:

 

  • Master's degree from a recognized university in one of the following disciplines: Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines with minimum GPA 7.0 and above
  • Professional work experience in developing, applying, and analyzing physics-based models and simulations and developing related algorithms. Minimum one year applied computational work experience for candidates with a Master's degree.
  • Strong knowledge of general numerical analysis and methods for solving differential equations are required
  • Experience in MATLAB or Python or C/C++ is required. Prior knowledge of commercial software development and/or experience in commercial software teams is a plus.
  • Experience in at least one of the following is required: 
    • Code development for Numerical solution of PDEs or Computational Fluid Dynamics
    • Modeling and simulation of multiphase flows or use of packages such as OLGA and PVTSIM
    • Expert level scripting (e.g. MATLAB, Python) for engineering applications
    • Computational work in geosciences, sedimentology or stratigraphy
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working in a collaborative environment is required
  • Experience with integrating various algorithms to solve complex engineering or geoscience problems is an advantage
  • Experience with validation or application of physics-based tools to model complex systems is an advantage
  • Experience in the application of optimization, machine learning, or other data science techniques to analyze and assimilate simulation results is an advantage
  • Previous work experience in the upstream oil and gas industry is an advantage
