What role you will play in our team
- An ExxonMobil oil field production technician is responsible for monitoring and maintaining oil production operations to ensure safety, efficiency, and reliability.
- They document key production data, troubleshoot equipment issues, and coordinate maintenance and repairs with other teams. The role also involves enforcing environmental and safety standards, overseeing contractors, and performing routine inspections.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, communication skills, and the ability to work independently in outdoor conditions are essential for success in this position
What you will do
- Monitor and Operate Equipment: Oversee daily operations of oil and gas production equipment, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
- Data Collection and Reporting: Compile, analyze, and report production data to support forecasting and operational decisions.
- Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions; coordinate with maintenance teams for repairs and adjustments.
- Safety and Environmental Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and environmental regulations during all field activities.
- Communication and Coordination: Work closely with field personnel and contractors to implement operational changes and ensure smooth workflow.
About You
Skills and Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of experience in oil and gas production operations or a similar industrial environment
Hands-on experience with production equipment such as separators, compressors, pumps, and valves
Technical Skills:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
Familiarity with SCADA systems, PLCs, and field instrumentation
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and flow diagrams
Safety & Compliance: - Knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry safety standards
Experience with hazard identification and mitigation in field environments
Ability to follow safety protocols and use PPE correctly
Physical Requirements: - Ability to work in outdoor environments and extreme weather conditions
Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces
Willingness to work rotational shifts, weekends, and be on-call as needed
Communication & Teamwork: - Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Reliable and self-motivated with strong organizational skills
Licenses & Certifications: - Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- High school diploma or GED (required)
- Technical certification or associate degree in petroleum technology, mechanical systems, or a related field (preferred)
Production Equipment Operation:
- Function and operation of separators, heaters, compressors, pumps, and storage tanks.
Start-up, shut-down, and routine operation procedures. - Well Site Operations: Understanding of artificial lift systems (e.g., rod pumps, gas lift, ESPs).
Knowledge of well testing procedures and flowback operations. - Process Monitoring & Optimization: Reading and interpreting pressure, temperature, and flow readings.
Adjusting equipment to optimize production and minimize downtime. - Preventive Maintenance: Routine inspection and servicing of mechanical and electrical components.
Identifying wear, corrosion, or malfunction in field equipment. - Safety & Environmental Compliance: Hazardous materials handling and spill response procedures.
Knowledge of H2S safety, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and confined space entry protocols. - Instrumentation & Control Systems: Basic understanding of SCADA systems and remote monitoring tools.
Calibration and troubleshooting of sensors and transmitters. - Fluid Properties & Chemistry: Basic knowledge of oil, gas, and water separation.
Understanding of chemical treatment processes (e.g., scale inhibitors, demulsifiers). - Regulatory Reporting: Familiarity with production reporting requirements (e.g., daily production logs, downtime reports).
Understanding of local, state, and federal regulations affecting oilfield operations. - Emergency Response:Procedures for responding to equipment failure, leaks, or safety incidents.
Use of fire suppression systems and emergency shutdown protocols." - Oil & Gas Production Processes: Understanding of upstream production operations, including well flow, separation, compression, and dehydration.
- Mechanical Systems: Knowledge of pumps, compressors, valves, and other mechanical equipment used in oilfield operations.
- Safety Regulations: Familiarity with OSHA standards, H2S safety, and environmental compliance requirements.
- Instrumentation & Control Systems: Basic understanding of SCADA systems, sensors, and automated control systems.
- Chemical Handling: Knowledge of chemical treatment processes used in oil and gas production (e.g., corrosion inhibitors, demulsifiers).
Preferred Qualifications/ Experience
- Computer & Digital Skills: Proficiency with digital field data capture tools or mobile apps.
Experience using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems). - Project Coordination Experience: Exposure to small-scale project planning or field logistics.
Ability to assist in coordinating contractors or service crews. - Leadership & Mentoring: Experience training or mentoring junior technicians.
Ability to lead small teams or shift crews during field operations. - Cross-Disciplinary Knowledge: Familiarity with drilling, completions, or midstream operations.
Understanding of reservoir behavior and production optimization strategies. - Bilingual Communication: Advanced first aid, fire safety, or incident command system (ICS) training.
- Environmental Awareness: Knowledge of spill prevention, wildlife protection, and environmental monitoring practices.
- Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving mindset.
Adaptability to changing field conditions or priorities.
Customer service orientation when interacting with landowners or regulatory personnel.
