Antwerp Refinery Process Control System Engineer

Job Role Summary

Reporting to the Process Control Systems Coordinator, this position is responsible for implementing and maintaining the hardware and software of the process control platforms for both, basic and advanced process control applications. This job also includes implementing parts of the infrastructure (primarily networking) and doing projects, risk analysis and studies to identify improvement areas and other opportunities.  The applications running in this computer environment do have direct influence on unit process operations so reliability and availability are key.

Job Role Responsibilities

Process Control Systems Engineer (SE) supporting Control Systems consisting of Honeywell EPKS/BMA  Distributed Control System plus the corresponding network architecture, Windows domain, related interfaces.  The process control environments include Production – incl. LABLAN and ATLAS, Simulator and Development domains.
Ensures flawless operation of the  Production, Development and Simulator control systems while adhering to EMRE/CSST and ICSR standards.

 

Support/Maintenance Activities:

  • Maintains a secure environment for process control systems, utilizing our Industrial Control System Requirements (ICSR)
  • Contact point between EMRE/CSST and the site
  • Role in daily monitoring & follow-up of the system and network performance indicators (back-ups, soft/hardware malfunctions, problem escalation)
  • Problem Solving Team Member
  • Work closely with the applications engineers to ensure the system is fit for purpose
  • Accountable for implementation of EMRE/CSST "Best Practices" 
  • Support the Systems scope for new projects, to ensure system needs are being met and ICSR/WPC requirements are being followed by each project.
  • Works with other System Engineers (peers), Applications and Technical personnel (colleagues), to establish and follow the system standards
  • Work closely with contractors as needed to leverage capabilities (be a mentor for contractors)
  • Writing or updating risk assessments, troubleshooting guides, or maintaining system documentation
  • Maintaining architecture/network drawings (Visio)
  • Part of team call out routine to provide 24/7 operational support of critical system components

 

Improvement Activities:

  • CSST CoP (Community of Practice)
  • Orders and builds new hardware to support new or improved applications
  • Maintains/expands hardware, applications, operating system and general computing infrastructure with patching and version upgrades - lifecycle replacement per CSST technology roadmap
  • Participate in project teams to identify and Implement the systems portion of improvement initiatives (Projects, Management of Change, or self-initiated)
  • Performs periodic risk assessments (create new or validate existing) to identify weaknesses and develop closure plans and eliminate gaps where cost or risk justified. 

Job Requirements

  • At least a bachelor degree in Computer Science
  • Builds and maintains safety culture, awareness and behavior consistent Site’s expectations
  • Thorough and extensive knowledge of the intricacies of Experion (EPKS), BMA, PHD is a surplus
  • (0-5 years related industrial experience - preferable Honeywell EPKS)
  • Experience with Microsoft operating systems (e.g. WS2008) with Active Directory (including GPOs, OUs, access accounts, global and local groups, DNS, …)
  • Understands virtualization technology (VMware), high availability, SAN, VSAN
  • CCNA / CCNP Certification is a surplus
  • Understands network protocols, IP sub-netting and concepts such as TCP/IP, switches, routers, firewalls, bandwidth, latency. Familiar with CISCO hardware. A thorough understanding of spanning-tree, VTP and HSRP  is required
  • Familiar with operational technology protocols MODBUS & OPC
  • Have a basic understanding of scripting languages such as powershell, python
  • Solid understanding of computer hardware (e.g. CPU, Memory, NIC, etc.)
  • Skillful with SQL, relational database concepts
  • Committed to gain knowledge to better understand context and role of the systems supported
  • Cyber security – understands the risks of intrusions of foreign software such as malware and viruses
  • Being a strong team player and actively collaborate inside the group
  • Good communication skills  - able to communicate a wide variety of technical concepts to others
  • Able to work with standard office productivity tools such as Word Processing, Spreadsheets, and Presentation development
