Job Role Summary

The HPC Infrastructure team is responsible for supporting all facets of the HPC service we offer our researchers.  This includes design and engineering as well as operational support of the cluster hardware, operating system, networking, storage, scheduler, and end-user systems.   While our HPC systems support a research-driven community we provide a production level of service. 

The High Performance Computing (HPC) Technical Lead furthers the research goals of our scientists by improving, automating, optimizing, supporting, and maintaining our HPC Infrastructure and Operations.  Simply, the Technical Lead is accountable for managing a small team to deliver quality HPC technical support to EMRE. 
The team’s HPC System Administrators contribute together on internal projects and the delivery of new features.  Further the Technical Lead demonstrates technical leadership and is capable of executing work items independently and mentoring others.   



Primary Job Requirements

* B.S. in Computer Science or related degree area (e.g. Computer Engineering, Information Systems) 
* 3+ years of hands-on Linux experience (e.g. RHEL, CentOS)  
* Experience in administration and technical support (e.g. configuration, maintenance, upgrade, problem resolution) of production infrastructure (e.g. networking, storage, monitoring)  
* Excellent technical, analytical, and communication skills 
* Self-motivated and driven to learn/teach 
* Works well in a team environment supporting researchers and scientists 
* Leadership and interpersonal effectiveness skills  

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

* Experience with Red Hat Operating System, and Red Hat Tools 
* Experience with large scale production environments 
* Experience in HPC technologies such as 
* High performance files systems (e.g. GPFS, Lustre) 
* High speed intra-connection (e.g. Infiniband, Fibre Channel) 
* Batch scheduling software suites (e.g. Slurm, TORQUE) 
* HPC class hardware (e.g. Cray, IBM, HPE)
