ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company has an opening for a Active Material Scientist located in Annandale, New Jersey. The successful candidate will join a dynamic group of scientists identifying and producing a diverse range of materials for applications of interest to our businesses. The ideal candidate will have particular interest in synthesis, characterization, and evaluation of targeted materials, including metal organic frameworks, porous polymer networks, covalent organic frameworks, and zeolites. Job Role Responsibilities

 

  • Work on multidisciplinary teams to synthesize, characterize, and evaluate novel materials
  • Develop skills in the application of active materials to separations & catalysis 
  • Collaborate effectively with other researchers within the company as well as with other potential industry partners or academic researchers
  • Active participation with the external scientific community is expected

Job Requirements

 

  • A Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering or related disciplines is required
  • The preferred candidate will have Post-Doctoral experience
  • Organic/Inorganic materials synthesis skills, particularly with metal organic framework systems covalent organic frameworks or zeolites
  • In-depth materials characterization skills
  • Exposure to separations or reactive testing with an understanding of structure/functional relationships
  • Additional skills in structure solution, synthetic organic chemistry, solid state chemistry, computational chemistry, self-assembly, separations science, or catalysis would also be desirable
  • Demonstrated capacity for critical and creative thinking is essential 
  • Willingness to apply technical expertise to new areas of materials research
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams
