Public & Government Affairs Manager

Job Summary

The candidate will support ExxonMobil operations and manage its public and government affairs engagements in the United Arab Emirates. The candidate will be responsible for monitoring and analyzing economic, political and policy trends to anticipate political and reputational risks and inform business strategies aligned with the corporation’s strategic goals. The successful candidate will assist in the development of business strategy materials (e.g. talking points, briefing documents...) and high-visibility communications materials, including social and digital content, publications, speeches, and presentations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide the business strategic advice to identify and capture investment opportunities, while protecting the value of existing assets
  • Assist the business in developing relationships and implementing strategies to promote the company’s reputation
  • Participate in integrated business and public affairs teams to develop and deliver tactical advocacy and communications plans to support  business objectives
  • Assist the business in developing influencing plans and participating in key events to secure engagement opportunities.
  • Manage overall company participation in  UAE-based conferences and exhibitions (ADIPEC, Energy Forums, etc)
  • Manage in-country budget for public and government affairs


Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, public relations, economics, political science or international relations preferred; advanced degree in a related discipline preferred
  • More than five years relevant experience in areas such as communications, marketing, public policy issues management, government relations, community relations or other related areas. Including at least two years in a managerial role leading a team
  • Strong writing skills and experience developing speeches, executive letters, publications
  • Ability to understand and articulate economics and the operations of global markets
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong internal and external relationships
  • Ability to work in a diverse multi-cultural environment and as part of a global team
  • Fluent in Arabic and English

  • Established relationships with relevant government officials, community, media leaders
  • Ability to influence without authority
  • Ability to understand, assimilate and communicate complex issues quickly
  • Familiarity and interest in issues related to energy, energy transition, environment, corporate citizenship and government relations
  • Problem-solving skills to identify solutions that fit multiple stakeholders with diverse viewpoints
  • Strong project-management skills, with an ability to multi-task and remain flexible when priorities change
  • A positive, proactive team-oriented attitude, culturally sensitive and ideally familiar with the working environment of a large-sized international organization
  • Understanding and respect for international and local protocols and cultural differences
  • Enthusiasm for public affairs challenges involved in working for one of the world's largest, most successful companies
